Got plans this weekend? One of the best events in Liverpool has finally arrived, with the UK’s largest free celebration of African music and culture, Africa Oyé in Sefton Park this Saturday and Sunday.

With the celebrations kicking off at 12.30pm and lasting until 9.30pm on both days, this is one festival you won’t want to miss out on this summer.

The festival is most known for the wealth of international music artists who feature on the main stage and this year you can expect to see Wara, Misty in Roots and a headline set from Finley Quaye.

There will also be over 40 stalls selling a range of African inspired food, drink, music, arts & crafts and fashion so you can completely immerse yourself into the culture, in more ways than one.

There will be a beer tent on site with day-long DJ sessions but if you want to carry the fun on long into the night, Sefton Park is perfectly situated for Lark Lane. With it’s great selection of bars, restaurants and cafes, you can keep on celebrating as long as your legs will hold you!

If your student home is based in Liverpool city centre, you can easily catch the 75, 80, 82 or 86 bus, and then it’s a short walk to the park site. It’s also a ten minute walk from Smithdown Road so the perfect festival if you’re living around here.

So head down this weekend and take advantage of the free celebrations- fingers crossed the sun stays out!
