Student Culture Fix – The Liverpool Biennial

The Liverpool Biennial arts and culture festival is in full swing. The theme for this year’s event is ‘hospitality’, and between September and November Liverpool will see 242 artists present their work in 27 locations across the city – a perfect theme following the UK hosting the Olympics this year.

There are free events, exhibitions, screenings, talks and activities taking place throughout the city between the 15th September and 25th November, and even internship and volunteering opportunities for those who want to get a little more involved.

Make the most of your sporadic student time tables, and spend an afternoon or two soaking up the culture. Most events and exhibitions are taking place at city centre locations, with a couple nearer to the Georgian Quarter student area, and as far out as Edge Hill railway station off Smithdown Road. One must-see exhibition is the John Moores University painting prize collection, housed at the Walker Art Gallery. This exhibition is hailed as the largest UK painting prize, and showcases some of the best new talent the UK painting world has to offer.
